Kraamcadeautje

Op het moment werk ik aan een kraamcadeautje voor mijn zwager en zijn vriendin. Zij hebben zelf aangegeven welke kleuren zij willen, zodat het bij de babykamer past. Het is de bedoeling dat de baby eind juni ter wereld komt. Ik moet dus wel even doorwerken, want zoals iedereen weet komen de meeste baby's op andere dagen dan de uitgerekende datum.

At the moment I am working on a present for the baby-to-come for my brother and sister in law. They chose the colours, so it will fit to the other things in the room of the baby. The baby is due on the end of june. So I have to finish it, because everyone knows that most baby's get born on an other day than the day they are expected.

Granny squares

Ter afwisseling ben ik wat gaan haken. Het gaat niet snel, omdat ik mijn duim wat moet ontzien, maar het lukt.

To do something else, I started to make granny squares . It is going slow, because I have to go easy on my thumb, but it is something I can do.

11, 12 en 13 juni Quiltfestival Noord Groningen

Op 11, 12 en 13 juni is het Quiltfestival in het Noorden van Nederland. Mijn Sporen quilt is daar te zien in de Georgiuskerk te Stitswerd, samen met werk van mijn collega-textielkunstenaars van de Textielgroep Vrouwen van Nu. In 2009 is het Textiel Kunst Project door Mathilde Jongbloed opgericht vanuit de organisatie NBVP, Vrouwen van Nu. Het doel van het project is textiele werkvormen creeeren, grensverlegend bezig zijn en inspiratie halen uit de bijeenkomsten. Uit het initiatief is de expositie "Sporen" ontstaan. Er is veel quiltwerk te bewonderen, maar ook vrijwerk in bijv. kantklossen.

On 11,12 and 13 June there is a Quiltfestival in the north of the Netherlands. My 'Sporen quilt' can be seen in the Georgius church in Stitswerd, where it is shown. There is also artwork to see that is made by my colleagues of the Textile Art Group. About ten churches will open their doors to show work of well know quilt artist and some quilt groups.

Het festival wordt gehouden in een tiental historische Groninger kerken. Er wordt werk geëxposeerd van regionale en landelijk bekende quilters, en diverse quiltgroepen.
De combinatie van een uitgebreide quilt expositie, Middeleeuwse kerken en het diverse landschap van het Hogeland is een uniek gegeven.

De kerken waarin geëxposeerd wordt zijn stuk voor stuk een bezoek waard en vormen een mooi decor voor de quilts die tentoongesteld worden. De bereikbaarheid met de auto is goed, voor de liefhebbers van fietsen is de route door het Groninger landschap een aanrader. In een aantal kerken wordt tijdens de tentoonstelling op het orgel gespeeld.

1000 Artisan Textiles

Eerst was ik wat teleurgesteld, omdat ik dit boek niet gewoon kreeg, maar het moest kopen. En ik was ook teleurgesteld toen ik merkte dat ik het niet kon kopen met korting, omdat ik geen credit card heb. Er was geen andere manier om het boek te kopen, dan een bestelling plaatsen bij een internet boekwinkel (waar ik met PayPal kon betalen)

At first I was a bit disappointed that I did not just get this book, but had to buy it. And I was also disappointed that I couldn't make use of the offer to buy it with discount, because I do not have a credit card. So there was no other way to place an order at an internet bookshop (where I paid with PayPal).

Vandaag kreeg ik het boek 1000 Artisan Textiles. Mijn quilt is te zien op pagina 299. En terwijl ik de pagina's doorbladerde, verdween mijn teleurstelling als sneeuw voor de zon. Het is een prachtig book.

Today I received the book 1000 Artisan Textiles. My quilt is in it on page 299. As I read the pages, my disappointment disappeared as snow in the sun. The book is wonderful.

Ik ben zo trots. Het is de eerste keer dat een quilt van mij in een boek gepubliceerd is. En het is ook nog eens een boek vol met prachtige textiele kunst. Er is deel voor draagbare kunst, zoals kleding van gevilte wol en een deel waar art quilts in staan. Sommige foto's laten details zien, sommige het gehele werk. Er staan veel bekende artiesten in, maar ook een aantal die nog ontdekt moeten worden. Het boek moet bedoeld zijn als een soort fotoboek. Het bevat namelijk voornamelijk foto's. Het heeft 320 pagina's.

I am so proud. It is the first time a quilt of mine is published in a book. And it is a book full of beautiful textile art. There is a section with wearable art, like clothes made of felted wool and there are a lot of art quilts in it. Some pictures show details, some the whole work. In the book are a lot of famous artists, but also some that are yet to discovered. The book must be mend as a sort of photo-album. It mainly contains pictures. The book has 320 pages.

Sneak peak

De komende tijd ga ik wat rustiger aan doen. Niet alleen heb ik nu last van mijn duim, maar van mijn hele hand. Daarom ga ik nu langzaam of niet werken, afhankelijk van hoe het gaat. Helaas heb ik moeten besluiten om te stoppen met het Kiss project van Dijanne. Ik kon de deadline niet halen. Ik vind dat zo jammer, want ik was goed op weg en ik vond het handquilten leuk om te doen (tot het zeer ging doen...). Ik denk dat het net is als met sporten. Je moet eerst trainen en dan pas meedoen aan de wedstrijd.

Ik hoop dat ik de Stad quilt op tijd af zal hebben. Mijn hand zal die beslissing nemen. Hierboven zie je een aantal foto's, zodat je het groeiproces wat kunt volgen.

I am taking some time out. Not only my thumb is hurting, but my entire hand is hurting now. So I decided to work slowly or not at all. I had to stop working on the KISS project of Dijanne. Such a shame, cause I loved the hand quilting (til it start hurting....). I guess it is as it is with sports. You have to train first and then go for the game.

I hope I can finish the Stad quilt in time. I will let my hand decide. Above a few photo's, so you can see some progress.

Onze appelboom had nog nooit zo veel bloesem. I hoop echt, voor de boom, at we niet net zo veel appels krijgen.

Our apple tree never had so much flowers. I really hope, for the tree, that we will not get this much apples.
