1 Jaar quilten - First year of quilting

Een jaar geleden ben ik begonnen met quilten. En het voelt alsof ik het altijd al deed. En het voelt ook of ik het altijd zal blijven doen. Het werd mij al gauw duidelijk dat vooral het art quilten en het werken met vilt mij aanspreekt. Ik heb er zo'n plezier aan om te werken met stof. Het liefst vrij en nog niet meteen met een eindresultaat in gedachten. En wat ik ook zo leuk vind is dat het quilten mij met zo veel leuke creatieve mensen in contact heeft gebracht. Ja het is een goede keus geweest om er aan te beginnen. En daarom wil ik dit eerste jaar vieren. Schrijf alsjeblieft voor morgenavond een reactie op dit bericht en dan zal ik morgenavond één van jullie namen trekken. Deze persoon krijgt dan een kleine verrassing toegestuurd.

A year ago I started quilting. And it feels as if I have don it forever. And I will keep quilting. When I started it was clear to me from the beginning that I like art quilting the most. And working with felt also is appealing to me. I really love working with fabric, especially when I just start working and don't know yet what it will become. And what I also like, is that quilting has brought me in contact with so much nice and creative people. Yes, it has been a good choice to start quilting. And therefor I want to celebrate this first year. Please write a message to this post and tomorrow evening I will draw the name of one person and send this person a little gift.

Wat mij bezighoudt - What I am up to

Dit hier boven is een detail van de mandala waar ik aan werk voor de Dutch Bag Ladies. Het is nog steeds niet naar mijn zin. Terwijl ik er aan werk probeer ik te bedenken hoe ik het kan verbeteren. En dat is deel van het plezier. Ik vind het ook leuk om de steekjes te maken terwijl ik nadenk over de volgende stap. Het houdt mijn gedachten weg van de dagelijkse dingen en zorgt voor rust in mijn hoofd. Heerlijk.

This (above) is a detail of the mandala I am working on for the Dutch Bag Ladies. I am not so fond of it yet. While working at it, I try to think of ways to enhance it. And That is part of the fun. I like making the stitches and think about the next step. It keeps my mind off of the daily things, which sets my mind on ease. I love that.

En dit is hoe ver ik ben met de 'punthoofden'-patchwork. Ik vind de kleuren erg mooi. Wel moet ik nog een manier vinden om er voor te zorgen dat de punthoofden meer opvallen. Ze lijken nu weg te vallen in de kleurenpracht.

And this is how far I am with the 'point-head'-patchwork. I like the colors very well. I still have to find a way to show the 'point heads' more. They seam to vanish in the colors.

Doordat we nu twee nintendo's in huis hebben hadden we behoefte aan een nieuw tasje. Dit is het tasje wat ik gemaakt heb.

Because we now have two nintendo's in our home, we needed an other bag for it. This is the bag I made.

Rising star

Vandaag heb ik een middag voor mezelf. Ik heb gewerkt aan de Exquisite Corps Quilt van Gail, waarvoor ik aan de beurt ben om mijn deel in te vullen. Ik ben al redelijk tevreden. Nog een paar kleine dingen veranderen en het is klaar. Ook heb ik bovenstaande postkaart gemaakt als tussendoortje. Eigenlijk had ik aan de slag willen gaan met de mandala voor de Dutch Bag Ladies, maar ik weet even niet hoe ik verder moet. Daar ga ik dus nog even naar kijken en hopelijk schiet me binnenkort te binnen wat ik moet doen. Ik zit in elk geval niet stil.

Today I have some time for myself. I worked on the Exquisite Corps Quilt of Gail. It is my turn to fill in a part. I am almost satisfied. Just some small changes and it is ready to send to the next artist. I also worked on the postcard you see in this message. I wanted to work on the mandala for the Dutch Bag Ladies, but I really don't know how to proceed. So I will just look at it for now and hope that I will know in time what to do with it. At least I am still busy doing things.

Kijk eens wat de postbode me bracht! Een prachtige kaart van Linda uit Australië. Ik had op haar blog gezien dat ze een aantal prachtige Aboriginalstofjes had gewonnen. Daarvan heeft ze kaarten gemaakt voor haar vrienden. En weet je wat... Ik ben er ook één geworden. Linda sluit nieuwe vrienden snel in haar hart ;-). Bedankt Linda. Ik ben er heel erg blij mee. Hij hangt hier nu in de kamer bij de andere kaarten die ik heb gekregen in de loop van het afgelopen jaar.

Look what the mailman brought me! A wonderful postcard from Linda/Australia. I saw on her blog that she won some beautiful Aboriginal fabrics. With this fabric she made cards for her friends. And you know what.... I have become one too! Linda embraces new friends very quickly ;-). Thank you very much Linda. I am very happy with it. I hung it up in our livingroom along with the other postcards I received in the past year.

Punthoofd

Dit werkje gaat mee als we voor langere tijd moeten reizen. Zo ook toen we op vakantie gingen. Het begint al aardig te groeien en ik heb ook al een idee wat ik er mee zal doen.

The piece is going along when we have to travel. So it also went along on our holiday. It is starting to grow and I am starting to get an idea of what I am going to make of it.

Hier zijn een paar van onze vakantiefoto's. Dit is the meest magische plek waar we in onze vakantie geweest zijn. Het trappisten klooster met de cisterciënser-monniken in Orval.

Vooral de oude ruïnes waren mooi, ondanks de trieste geschiedenis.
Especially the old ruins were beautiful, in spite of their sad history.

We hebben ook een monnik ontmoet. Hij heeft een poosje met onze twee zonen gepraat.

Fabric dyed with blackberries

Gisteren heb ik stof geverfd met bramen. Dit resulteerde in mooie paarse stof waarmee ik bovenstaande kaart heb gemaakt en de ATC's die je hieronder ziet.
Yesterday I dyed some fabric with blackberries. I got some wonderful purple fabric out of it and made the postcard above and the two ATC's you see below.

Back from Holidays

A few days ago we got back from Holidays. We went to Neufchateau in Belgium. We had a wonderful time and I made a lot of pictures. I think I will show some in the next week. I had little time to work on my quilts, but made some progress with the mandala quilt I am making for the Dutch Bag Ladies. You can see what I did on the picture above.
