Stellar quilt

Voor de groep Around the world in 20 quilt heb ik gewerkt aan een quilt met het thema Stellar. Dit was een echte uitdaging voor mij, want ik vond het lastig om iets te bedenken wat leuk uit te voeren was. Op het internet heb ik gezocht naar de betekenis van het woord Stellar. En na een tijdje bedacht ik dit. Ik wilde iets doen met stellar en sterrenbeeld. En omdat ik gek ben op boerderijdieren, koos ik ram. Mijn moeder heeft dit sterrenbeeld, dus ik dacht ook aan haar toen ik hem maakte. De sterren die je hier staan precies zoals de sterren in het sterrenbeeld Ram. De ram is handgeverfd op stof. Ik heb ook nog geprobeerd om andere materialen te gebruiken, maar de stof was zo vol kleur, dat ik besloot het te laten zoals het is.

For the group Around the world in 20 quilts I worked an a quilt with the theme Stellar. This was a real challenge for me. I found it hard to come up with an idea that could be executed. I looked at the internet trying to find out what stellar means. And after some time I came up with this idea. I wanted to do something with stellar and star signs. As I love farm animals, I choose the ram. My mother is a Aries, so I also thought of her while making it. The stars you see on this quilt are the actual stars of the star sign Aries, in a stellar sky :-). I hand painted the ram on the quilt. I also tried to use some other materials, but the fabric I dyed was so full of colour that I decided to leave it as it is.

Lynn's eerste stoffen postkaart - Lynn's first fabric postcard

Vandaag kleurde Lynn mijn dag met haar mooie, felgekleurde postkaart. Het is haar eerste postkaart van stof ooit. Lynn, bedankt dat je hem mij stuurde. Ik vind de kleuren erg mooi en ik ben zeker dat je het komende jaar nog meer postkaarten zult maken.

Today Lynn brightend up my day with this lovely, bright coloured fabric postcard. Her first fabric postcard ever made. Lynn, thank you so much for sending this card to me. I really like the colours and I am sure that you will make more cards this coming year. I had a lot of fun reading the backside. You did fine!

Postkaarten gemaakt en verzonden

Dit is één van de postkaarten die ik pasgeleden heb gemaakt om te ruilen. Ik heb meerdere gemaakt, maar ik kan de foto's hiervan niet terugvinden. Het begon toen ik een kaart wilde maken voor een vriendin van mij in Spring, Texas die ging trouwen. De kaart moest hierbij passen. En ik had zo veel plezier om deze te maken, dat ik besloot er nog een aantal te maken om te ruilen. Ik heb één naar Beate, Annika en Veronique gestuurd.

This is one of the postcards I made for a swap recently. I made others, but I can't find the photo's. I started making these, because a friend of mine in Spring, Texas was going to be married. And it had to fit that occasion. And I had so much fun making it, that I decided to make some more for trade. I send one to Beate, Annika and Veronique.

The others will come home soon. The last squares are being worked on. It is so exciting. Isn't it nice to see what happens if everyone has to fill in a square without knowing what the others did? And in the end you can not see what the original design is. It is a bit like unwrapping a gift. You know it is precious, but you don't know what work has been done. What a surprise it will be to receive my own design back, finished... Can't wait...

Een nieuwe naai/borduurmachine! Nou ja, niet helemaal, maar nieuw voor mij. Je kunt je dus voorstellen dat ik de komende tijd niet veel tijd heb om te bloggen :-).

A new sewing/embrodery machine! Well, not quit new, but new for me. So you can imagine that I will not have time to blog for a while :-)

Workshop Experiment 4 - Wil Fritsma

Afgelopen zaterdag heb ik de workshop Experiment 4 gevolgd van Wil Fritsma. Het was weer heerlijk om twee dagen lang uren met quilttechnieken bezig te zijn. En hoewel ik al veel technieken ken, heb ik nog niet alle technieken zelf geprobeerd. Soms omdat ik niet weet hoe ik er mee aan de gang moet, andere omdat ik er de tijd nog niet voor had of nog niet had bedacht hoe ik het kon toepassen. Nu ik weer vol inspiratie zit, ben ik ook weer hard bezig. Met van alles en nog wat.

Last Saterday I followed the workshop Experiment 4 of Wil Fritsma. It was wonderful to work two days long on quilt techniques. And though I know a lot of techniques, I haven't tried them all out. Sometimes, beceause I don't know how to use them, other times because I didn't had the time, or didn't know yet how to incorperate them in my work. After this workshop I am full of inspiration and working hard. Working on all kind of things, that aren't ready yet.


A new quilt

Dit is een quilt in de ontwerpfase. Hiervoor heb ik vilt, angelina, tule en zelfgeverfde katoen gekocht (ik kreeg deze lap van Bianca). Ik hou jullie op de hoogte van de vorderingen. En ook van die van de bovenste quilt (een andere quilt dan die hier direct boven)

This is a quilt that is in the design stage. I used felt, angelina, tule and hand dyed cotton. I will keep you informed about the process of this one. And the one in the top (that is another one)


More fabric, more colours

Omdat ik meer kleuren stof nodig heb voor de stormquilt (thema van de Dutch Bag Ladies), heb ik stof geverfd. Het is nnog steeds niet genoeg, dus ik zal nog wat meer moeten verven. Ik mis nog wat kleuren en heb een aantal kleuren gefabriceerd die ik nu niet nodig heb.

Because I need some more colors for the stormquilt (The Dutch Bag Ladies theme), I dyed some cotton. It is still not enough, so I need to dye some more. There are still some colours missing and I dyed some colours I don't need right now.

Postkaart en ATC gekregen

Annica uit Zweden stuurde mij deze prachtige postkaart. Ze deed er een klein kaartje bij in dezelfde kleuren. Het is prachtig. Bedankt Annica! Ik vind de kleuren en steken erg mooi.

Deze prachtige ATC kreeg ik van Veronique uit Frankrijk met een mooi verhaal erbij. Ze schreef dat nadat we besloten kaarten te ruilen ze op de radio hoorde dat in het dialect rondom Marseille één woord van Nederlandse oorsprong bestaat: stokvis. En daarom besloot ze dat dat het thema van de ATC zou worden. Het is een prachtige kaart geworden, en met het verhaal erbij is het ook nog heel speciaal geworden. En als ik dan denk aan al die Franse woorden die we in het Nederlands gebruiken. Ik zal niet beginnen met tellen... Veronique, bedankt voor de ruil.

This wonderful ATC was send to me by Veronique from France with a wonderful story. She wrote that when we decided to trade cards she heard on the radio that there is only one word in the local language of Marseilles that has it's origin in the Netherlands. The word is stockfish. And so she decided to make an ATC of stock fish. The card is wonderful, and with the story it has become special as well. And as I think of all the French words we incorporated in Dutch... I will not start counting :-). Veronique, thank you for trading!

Van idee tot uitwerking?

Mijn design voor de stormquilt van de Dutch Bag Ladies is klaar. Hij ligt hier onder de stoffen die ik al bij elkaar heb gezocht. Helaas kan ik er nog niet aan beginnen, want ik wacht nog steeds op de stof die ik heb besteld. De stof die ik wil verven voor deze quilt. Ik heb ook stof toegevoegd die ik over had van de Mandala opdracht.

I have my design for the storm quilt (Dutch Bag Ladies) ready. It is lying underneath the fabric I collected for this quilt. But I can not start, because I am still waiting for the fabric I ordered. The fabric I want to dye for this quilt. In the meanwhile I'll work on other things. I also added the fabric from the Mandala challenge.

Klein telefoontasje - Little telephone bag

Een paar dagen geleden heb ik dit telefoontasje gemaakt. Ik hou erg van de heldere kleuren. Het stikwerk is met de hand gedaan.

A few days ago I made this telephone bag. I am fond of the bright colours. The stitching is all done by hand.

Testing, testing, one, two, three...

Voor Around the world in 20 quilts ben ik bezig met het thema Stellar, wat stellair betekent. En dat is zoiets als sterrenstelsel. Het is voor mij een lastig thema, maar al denkend kwam ik bij sterrenbeeld en wilde dat combineren met sterren. Ik heb gekozen voor het sterrenbeeld Ram en dit hier boven is het proefje voor het quiltje wat ik voor Around the world in 20 quilts ga maken. Mijn man vond deze te druk "met al die vlakjes, sterren en zo". Zelf vind ik dit eigenlijk ook al wel mooi. Het andere quiltje wordt mooier denk ik.

For Around the world in 20 quilts I am working with the theme Stellar. I find this a hard theme, but while I was thinking I thought about star signs. I chose for Aries. What you see here is a sample, to practice for the final quilt. My husband said this one is too full "with all those squares, stars, etc..". I kinda like it. But, I think the final quilt will be better.
