Dutch Bag Ladies

Ik voel me vereerd!

The Dutch Bag Ladies asked me if I would like to join their group. I feel proud that they asked me. It is a Dutch Group of art quilters, who come together four times a year. One of the group members provides of a bag with fabrics and a theme. All the members work on the theme and the next time they see each other they show what they made.

The end of the 'tree' for Around the world in 20 quilts is near, but there is still a lot of work to be done. I am still busy making branches and leaves. And, I have started hand quilting on some part of this new quilt. This hand quilting is taking up more time than expected. I must say that I like the result so far. It is nice to see how this quilt is still growing. And it has been some time since I finished a quilt, so it is nice that I will make at least four quilts this year, since that is what we agreed on doing with the quiltgroup Around the world in 20 quilts.

A tree has a lot of leaves, at least my tree. And this is what it looks like while I am working on it.
And now the end is near. My tree quilt is almost ready, but I will not show it just yet. Still have to make some more branches with leaves.

From winter to spring

My tree is still growing. Winter is over and there are leaves now. I really enjoy making this tree.

I made two mistakes. 1. I thought the size would be A4. So when I started I cut the fabric in that size. I did not realize that 20 inch is a lot larger. Almost twice as large. The hight is fine. So I have to make my design larger now. I am glad I learned some quilt as you go techniques, for I already quilted most of this part. 2. The second mistake was that I thought I could work in layers with this tree and sewed the light green fabric underneath this tree-fabric, to use it later on. But then I saw that my design does not need this. So now I have two layers, and I only use one...

Project work - Around the world in 20 quilts

I am working on two projects: Exquisite corps textiles and Around the world in 20 quilts. I can not show what I am doing for the Exquisite corps textiles project because the outcome has to be a secret. But I can show you how far I am with my work for Around the world in 20 quilts. It is not that you can see what it will become yet, for I want it to be a surprise, but it is a glimps. I will show the steps I am taking along the way. And the best is, that is is also a surprise to me, because it grows in my hands. I do not have a plan in advance how I will make it. I decide and design it along the way.

Inspired by Jude Hill

Jude Hill is a lady with a lot of talent. I love the work she makes and wanted to try to work in a simalar way. Also because I wanted to take something along on a train ride. And here it is. My work in progress. I love to paint with thread. It seems as if the fabric comes alive. Will be continued...

Mijn werk in wording.

It is lovely weather and I really needed a new shirt. In the stores I couldn't find anything and to be honest, I didn't have much time to shop. That is why I made a shirt yesterday. No (art)quilt or so, but just something to wear.

Mijn quilt in Quiltnieuws 96

When I became a member of the Quiltersgilde (september 2007) they send me four pieces of batik fabric to welcome me as a new member. I made a little quilt, that I also showed on this blog, and later I thought it might be nice to send the Quiltersgilde a photo to show that I used the fabric in a quilt. They send me an email and asked for a high quality photo, because they wanted to publish it in their magazine. And this week I got the magazine and yes, the photo is in it. And it feels special to see your own work displayed this way. The 16.000 members can all look at it now. My first quilt in a magazine. Who knows where this creative path will lead me to.

Mijn eerste quilt... Wie weet wat er nog volgt.

Textielexperiment

I am experimenting, because I want to make a quilt for Around the world in 20 quilts with the theme 'Trees'. Today I painted some fabric with procion MX to make my tree and I made the fabric you see above. I am not yet satified with it but I see it as a basefabric that needs more than paint. I will show pictures of this tree later on on the blog of Around the world in 20 quilts.

The fabric above is a print of some of the painted fabric (including the tree fabric that I did not show yet). Isn't it interesting? I did not painted on fabric with soda-ash. So I will let it be for a week or so and then soak it in soda-ash water. I hope it will be OK. Otherwise the next time I have to do it the other way around. Will be continued...
